What is a Behaviour Support Practitioner?

An NDIS Behaviour Support Practitioner is an individual deemed suitable by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission to deliver specialist behaviour support services under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). Behaviour support practitioners are employed by registered Specialist Behaviour Support providers to assess behaviour, develop Behaviour Support Plans (BSP’s), and reduce the use of restrictive practices in line with the NDIS Commission’s framework. .

At Active Positive Behaviour Support we partner with Mindful Innovative Action, as the registered NDIS provider, to deliver quality, person-centred behaviour support under the NDIS.

What is Positive Behaviour Support?

Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), also referred to as Behaviour Support, is a human rights values led approach. It includes an ongoing process of assessment, intervention and data-based decision making.

PBS focuses on skill building, creating supportive contexts through ecological and systemic change and reducing the likelihood and impact of behaviours of concern. It relies on person-centred, proactive and evidence informed strategies that are respectful of a person’s dignity and aim to enhance a person’s quality of life.

Shalea Pullen

Behaviour Support Practitioner

Hi, I’m Shalea, Behaviour Support Practitioner, parent, and founder of Active Positive Behaviour Support.

I started this work not just from professional interest, but from lived experience. I’m a mum of five, four of whom are neurodivergent, myself included. I know firsthand how overwhelming it can be to navigate assessments, therapy waitlists, school meetings, and those really tough moments no one else sees. I also know the power of feeling heard and understood, and the relief that comes from having a plan that actually works for your family, not just on paper.

I provide neuroaffirming, trauma-informed behaviour support designed to enhance the quality of life for children, adolescents and young adults. My approach empowers individuals by fostering autonomy and meaningful choices, all while ensuring families and carers feel supported and empowered as well.

Whether you’re brand new to the NDIS, feeling lost in the system, or just need someone who gets it, I’m here to walk alongside you with compassion, clarity, and no judgement.

Let’s build something that works for your child and your whole family.

What looks like defiance is often distress. Behind every behaviour is a need, not a battle.

Our Vision

At Active Positive Behaviour Support, our vision is to create a world where individuals are understood, supported, and empowered, not silenced, punished, or “fixed.”

We imagine a future where parents feel confident, not judged.
Where schools are safe and flexible, not rigid and reactive.
Where support plans are clear, practical, and deeply human, not clinical documents that get filed away.

We exist to:

  • Honour each child’s unique brain and body

  • Help families navigate the tough stuff with compassion and clarity

  • Replace compliance-based strategies with connection-driven support

  • Bring real change to real households one plan, one conversation, one “aha” moment at a time

We believe behaviour is communication, and as Dr. Ross Greene says, “kids do well if they can ”And we’re here to make sure they can.

Who We Support

While we support NDIS participants of all ages, we specialise in working with neurodivergent children, adolescents, and young adults. We also work collaboratively with families, support workers, and education settings.
